While I was happy to spend money on an expensive haircut, an evening out or a weekend away, a personal trainer always seemed a bit, well, self-indulgent. I had my gym membership at the local leisure centre but spending hours on end on various pieces of cardio equipment just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I booked myself a taster personal training session with Mike and I can honestly say the training was, and still is money well spent for me.
A Personal Trainer provides me with accountability & motivation. They have a vested interest in seeing that I complete my workouts and am sticking to my health & nutritional goals. Also, if you’re paying a trainer, do you really want to slack off and feel like you aren’t getting the most for your money? Money spent is good motivation to work out!
Trainers also provide expertise. A good personal trainer will watch closely to ensure that you are doing the exercises properly to maximize your result and target the intended muscle group. My trainer carefully watches me and corrects minor mistakes in form as I make them. Sometimes the smallest tweak of an exercise will change the muscle that is targeted, and I can tell the difference when he corrects me. This is something I could never do on my own. Usually, I’m not even aware of a mistake in form. Consistently doing an exercise incorrectly can lead to injury. An injury can derail a workout program and cause so much discouragement that you could lose momentum and determination to continue. A good trainer will help you to do exercises properly so that you won’t injure yourself.
Working out with a trainer is also great if you’ve got some goals to smash as they can personalize your workouts based on your individual strengths and weaknesses.
Whether you’ve got a holiday coming up or you want to make a longterm change to your health and fitness, they’ll take you right outside of your comfort zone. A good trainer will know how to push you but will also be able to reign you in before any injuries might set in! Good trainers will know alternative exercises if you have difficulty with one or if you have an injury to work around. Sometimes a modified version of an exercise is necessary, depending on your fitness level.
Having a personal fitness trainer might seem like a luxury if you are on a tight budget, but if you really want to get the most out of your workouts, a trainer is a great investment. The improvement in your health and fitness levels can have such a positive effect on your life!
We’re incredibly lucky to have eight amazing personal trainers here at MWFITNESS and working in the office, I’ve found myself lucky enough myself to train with almost all of them at some point or another! They are all different and have different styles of training which is fantastic for someone like me, as they all bring a different aspect to each session. I honestly look forward to every session I have here. So if you’re in two minds, I’d personally definitely recommend it!
